Teaching Method
The nursery pupils learn through play and that is why our method of teaching is playway. Teaching period is not rigid as we have in the primary. Therefore, our timetable is called programme of activities. It is such a flexible programme that guides daily activities.
Teaching and Learning Materials
Depending on the subject being taught, the classes are stocked with all sorts of learning materials. From, charts, concrete objects to audiovisuals. More attention is given to individual’s best learning style. In every class we have the three groups of learning styles. They are the visual learners, auditory learners and kinesthetic learners. All these groups are catered for accordingly.
Classroom
Each classroom has a bathroom en suite, air-conditioned, and spacious with colourful and comfortable chairs and tables. Playgroup class has a bed per pupil with duvet and pillows to make them comfortable while sleeping. Playgroup and Reception classes have Video and TV with DSTV facility.
Playground
The importance of play in early years cannot be over emphasized. Therefore our playground is equipped with garden toys such as climbing frames, playhouse, worming, swings, slides, toy cars, bicycles etc. These are provided to develop the pupils’ gross motor skills.
Library
Reading culture is inculcated into the pupils as early as possible. This activity starts with picture reading in the library then to proper reading of children story books and comics. The library is also well stocked with electronics learning materials such as V Tech products for early introduction to ICT.
Clubs
While swimming and ballet clubs are optional, literary and practical life classes are compulsory. Activities such as drama, dancing and story telling take place in literary class while all forms of activities in our day to day life take place in practical life class.
Feeding
Everybody eats in school. We encourage the parents to ensure that their children come to school with at least a glass of milk or cereal since children do not have large appetite early in the morning. The school food otherwise known as mid day meal comes at a time when the children are really ready to eat.
Promotion/Assessment
It is not automatic for a child to be promoted to the next class. He or she has to merit it. However, there are series of assessments in the Nursery. We have some daily, weekly and termly. The result of each assessment assists us to diagnose early enough any problem that may need quick intervention. We always involve the parents in our activities through the daily homework.
Open Day
Parents are allowed to visit the school twice in a term to check the academic performance of their children. The first visit is at the end of mid term test while the second is at the end of the term. During the visit Parents are free to discuss with teachers anything that concerns their children.
Early years Practitioners/personnel
Our practitioners are experienced and trained in the various early years courses to meet the needs of the pupils in the nursery. They are constantly exposed to both local and international courses to keep abreast of current teaching ideas.
